Kingsway Racquet Club: A New Space Built on Considered Design
There is a certain energy you feel when you walk into a space that has been carefully considered from the ground up. At Kingsway Racquet Club, that feeling is immediate. This is not a renovation or a refresh layered over old bones. This is a brand-new clubhouse, built with intention, clarity, and a strong sense of identity. From the very beginning, the team at Kingsway knew exactly what they wanted their space to feel like, and tiles played a central role in bringing that vision to life.
Rather than being a purely functional decision, the tile selection became part of the architectural language of the space. Kingsway Racquet Club selected their own tiles for the project, working with Cape Tiles to source finishes that balanced durability, visual impact, and a strong sense of identity.
Flooring That Shapes Movement and Mood
The foundation of the clubhouse is set by Spazio Grey tiles, used extensively throughout the main floor areas. Their large format and neutral grey tone create a calm, contemporary base that allows other design elements to shine. The scale of the tile helps the space feel open and uncluttered, while its subtle texture brings warmth and tactility underfoot. In a high-traffic environment like a racquet club, Spazio Grey delivers both performance and polish, grounding the space without dominating it.
As movement flows through the building, the flooring begins to shift. Patterned zones introduce rhythm and visual interest, particularly in transition areas. The Nervion tiles add a bold geometric layer, bringing energy and direction to the floor plane. Their graphic pattern echoes the dynamism of sport, while the slip rating makes them well suited to an active, social environment. These patterned moments break up the neutrality and subtly guide how people move through the clubhouse.
Layered Wall Finishes with Character
Wall finishes were treated with equal care. In social spaces such as the bar and service areas, texture becomes a focal point. The Fern Herringbone Mosaic was chosen to create depth and visual richness, turning practical wall surfaces into standout design features. The herringbone layout adds a sense of craftsmanship and movement, catching light differently throughout the day and encouraging guests to pause and engage with the space.
This textured backdrop is balanced by the clean lines of Giuseppe Albus wall tiles. Their elongated format introduces a contemporary rhythm and provides contrast against the more intricate mosaic. Used together, these tiles create a layered interior that feels refined yet relaxed, striking the right balance between statement and simplicity.
Supporting the overall palette are Lethabo Grey tiles, which reinforce the neutral tones used throughout the clubhouse. These tiles add subtle variation while maintaining cohesion across different areas. Their understated finish ensures continuity between spaces, helping indoor and outdoor areas feel visually connected rather than segmented.
Design Choices That Shape Daily Experience
What makes the Kingsway Racquet Club project particularly compelling is the confidence behind the material choices. As a newly built club, there was no need to compromise or work around existing finishes. Every tile was selected intentionally, with a clear understanding of how it would contribute to both the aesthetic and the day-to-day use of the space. Cape Tiles’ role was to support that vision by providing access to a broad, high-quality range that allowed those decisions to be realised without compromise.
The finished clubhouse feels contemporary without being cold, and stylish without feeling over-designed. It is a space that invites people to linger, whether they are stopping by for a quick coffee, meeting friends after a match, or spending an afternoon courtside. The tiles quietly do their work in the background, defining zones, enhancing movement, and reinforcing the character of the club.
Kingsway Racquet Club stands as a strong example of how thoughtful material selection can elevate a space from functional to memorable. By choosing tiles that combine performance with personality, the club has created an environment that supports both sport and community.
